Elden Ringis full of surprises and mysteries. One of the most exciting surprises isElden Ring’s multiplayer, and while many may never participate in it, From Software encourages players by giving rewards in runes to those who are victorious in PvP. One player, if they’re to be believed, had a more surprising experience than most recently. They claim that theirElden RingPvP victory rewarded them with a jaw-dropping 86 million runes.

In a Reddit thread titled “Gained 86 million runes by killing someone in pvp, What do i do?” The thread is full of suggestions regarding what the poster should do with their newfound war chest. Leveling up is the easy answer. Some recommend upgrading all the weapons they’ve acquired. Others yet say the player should take two deaths and intentionally lose the runes. But the bigger question is how this happened, becauseElden Ring’s PvPshould never have given a reward so big.

Elden Ring, like previousFrom Software games, has a strict system for providing rewards to PvP victors based on what kind of PvP scenario players enter into. The rewards are based on the level of the opponent defeated, or more specifically, a percentage of the cost for their most recent level. The maximum percentage, earned by defeating an invader using either a Bloody Finger or a Festering Bloody Finger to invade, is 15%. The thing is, even atElden Ring’s peak levels, 15% of the cost of a level will never get near 86 million runes.

What that means is one of the three things. First, and perhaps most likely, is that theElden Ringplayer is lying. They either earned their runes a different way or don’t actually have that many runes in the first place. It’s easy enough to edit an image usingElden Ring’s font, after all. Second, the player encountered a glitch that multiplied their reward several times over.Elden Ringisn’t polishedto a degree that it’s above such flaws.

The last option, and the most worrying, is that theElden Ringplayer encountered a hacker. A hacker could easily have manipulated their own statistics to a degree to a point where they rewarded more runes than the game should reasonably allow. It’s worrying because it would open the receiving player to getting banned byFrom Softwaredue to acquiring runes in a way the game didn’t intend.

Altogether, the situation is probably much more stressful than anyone playingElden Ringreally wants to deal with. 86 million runes can go a long way, but no one wants to risk being banned by From Software just for winning aPvP duel. Due to this post, a lot moreElden Ringplayers will likely be nervous about their PvP opponents going forward.

Elden Ringis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
