Officially titledDC’s League of Super-Pets, the film represents the first instance ofSuper-Petscharacters appearing on the big screen. Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, and Keanu Reeves round out the voice cast in undisclosed roles, and the film is directed by Jared Stern, who wrote and produced all thirteen episodes ofGreen Eggs and Hamfor Netflix.
DC’s League of Super-Petsis the first theatrically released animated film based on a DC property sinceThe Lego Batman Movieand the most recent one based on superhero comics as a whole sinceSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Johnson is an exciting casting choice for Krypto, and it will be fascinating to see how Warner Bros. plans to adapt a film about the belovedSuper-Petcharacters to the big screen.
Very few of Warner Bros.' recent animated films have reached the same level of acclaim and audience engagement as films by Disney, Pixar, and other established animation studios. However, with superhero films ruling the box office and winning the hearts of most audiences, aSuper-Petsfilm led by Johnsoncould be the perfect project for the studio to catch up to its contemporaries.
If nothing else, it should be amusing to see Johnson and Hart work together in the voice roles as the best friends of Superman and Batman. Plus, the Super-Petsteaser’s use of the classic Superman theme by John Williams will put a smile on many faces.
DC’s League of Super-Petswill fly into theaters on May 20th, 2022.
