Microsoft shocked the gaming world when the company decided to shut downMixerand instead partner with Facebook Gaming. Dr Disrespect was live on his Twitch stream when he heard the news, and his reaction to the move surprised some of his fans.
WhileMixerwasn’t as popular as Twitch, the streaming service had some big-name entertainers likeNinja and Shroud. The decision to shut down Mixer seemed to happen out of nowhere, and many Mixer streamers discovered that the platform was shutting down while their channels were live. When the news was brought to Dr Disrespect’s attention, he responded in a way that was outside his usual persona.

Dr Disrespect heard the news, and instead of joking about it or mocking Mixer as he has been known to do in the past, he became uncharacteristically serious. He told his fans that Mixer shutting down isn’t something to laugh at or be happy about. When a donation asked him his take on the situation, he said that many people are probably being laid off because of this move, and that wasn’t something to joke about. With the currentcoronaviruseconomic recession, jobs are harder to keep hold of and even more difficult to find.
When asked for his thoughts on Shroud and Ninja’s futures, Dr Disrespect said that they would probably be returning to Twitch if they could still get paid and get out of the situation withFacebook Gaming. With all that being said, he told fans his opinion of Mixer: Microsoft tried to get the momentum for the platform to take off by bringing in big-name streamers, but the effort didn’t have enough of an impact. Dr Disrespect was also confused by Facebook’s decision to merge with Mixer and voiced that it may have had to do with technology or infrastructure and not just expanding the platform with a new partnership.
WhileDr Disrespectis not known as a streamer who takes things very seriously, he can still recognize the big impact that this is going to have on people who relied on Mixer for their income. While some Mixer streamers have said that they won’t be making the move to Facebook Gaming, there are many who haven’t made their future decisions public yet.
