The first trailer forStrange World, which is set to be released in November 2022, depicts a brief glimpse of what’s to come in the movie. It also manages to pay its respects to retro sci-fi flicks, with some of this inspiration even being used on the film’s official poster. The film’s director Hall even stated thatStrange Worldis deeply inspired by pulp science fiction magazine covers of past iconic decades like the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s, which are the same magazines that inspired the creation oftheStar Warsfranchise.
Strange Worldtells the story of a chaotic family of explorers, who find themselves on their most treacherous and gruesome journey yet. In the trailer, they explore a colorful and quirky-looking planet while encountering all the roadblocks and creatures that reside on it. Searcher Clade, voiced by Jake Gyllenhaal, is revealed to be the son of a famous explorer, however, he calls himself a farmer instead of owning who he is and doesn’t seem to be too ecstatic about playing a part in the adventurous mission.
With this just being the first look at what’s to come withStrange World, it’s clear that the film is different from anything the Walt Disney Animation Studios has released in the past decade. The film is not only an ode to the past, but it also seems to put its own spin on the iconic pulp science fiction elements it brings to the table — making everything it uses its own in a strange way.
Despite the unknown, all will soon be revealed as Walt Disney Animation Studios teases more of what’s to come down the road and whenStrange Worldis officially released to the world.
