One talented gamer took a cue from the world of animation when assembling a new outfit for their Guardian in Bungie’sDestiny 2, producing an impressive homage to one of the most villainous residents ofSpongeBob SquarePants’ Bikini Bottom. Bungie released anupdate forDestiny 2at the beginning of the month that brought the usual round of bug fixes along with some changes to weapon swapping in the game.Launched in 2017 as a paid title for PC and consoles before switching to a free-to-play model with the release of New Light two years later,Destiny 2’s solid gunplay and generally satisfying loot system have made it a hit with many shooter fans.Destiny 2’s story has continued to evolve throughout its lifespan, with the upcomingFinal Shape expansionset to bring an end to the game’s ongoing Light and Darkness Saga. WhileDestiny 2’s storyline is mostly a serious affair, that hasn’t stopped creative players from making use of the game’s character creation system to design some hilariously outlandish Guardians over the years.RELATED:Destiny 2 Clip Shows How Red War Gear Fares in 2023A new post from theDestiny 2leaderboard site DestinyTracker’s Twitter account shared a great example of the sorts of outlandish Guardians players have designed in the game. Exclaiming “FLAPPING FLOTSAM IT’S MAN RAY!!!,” the post includes a picture of aDestiny 2Guardian made up to look likeSpongeBob SquarePants’ submersible supervillain, Man Ray. The hilarious Guardian outfit features Man Ray’s signature blue and red color scheme, and even recreates the glaring red eyes of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy’s nasty nemesis using an NPA “Weir-Walker” Visor. Man Ray isn’t the only pop culture character to find new life in Bungie’s free-to-play shooter, though, with another gamer recently sharing a screenshot of aDestiny 2Guardian dressed like Jim Carrey in The Mask.

Eager to help players design their own Man Ray-inspired Guardian, DestinyTracker followed up its post with a screenshot showing which items were used to assemble the villainous outfit. Fans ofDestiny 2were amused by the unique outfit, with several responses linking GIFs of the animated villain in action. One reply included a picture of anotherSpongeBob SquarePants-inspired creation, sharing a screenshot of a pink-and-green-clad Guardian that bears an uncanny resemblance to SpongeBob’s best friend, Patrick Star.

This hilarious Guardian outfit shows that, even in the conflict-filled world of theDestiny 2universe, there’s always room for a bit of levity. And while online opponents may not find the costume particularly intimidating, at least it should pair well withDestiny 2’s fishing minigame.

Destiny 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
