After very vocal concern fromDestiny 2players, Bungie has reduced the requirements necessary forcompleting the new “The Lie” weapon quest. Now, the community will not have to complete as many Seraph Tower public events to progress the quest from Ana Bray and eventually claim the Felwinter’s Lie shotgun.
When the quest first appeared, theDestiny 2community was understandably frustrated by Bungie’s decision to focus on Seraph Tower public events. Based on the quest tracker, the community would need to complete 9,000,000 Seraph Tower events in order to finish the quest step. But coming off anevent like Guardian Gamesthat was so bounty heavy, and whose reward was very disappointing, players were feeling very fatigued.

Bungie has rolled out two separate nerfs, one for the event and one forSeraph Towersas a whole. The most important change is that Seraph Tower event completion will now count as 5 times the normal completion on weekdays, and 10 times during the weekends.
Considering that theDestiny 2community couldn’t even crack 100,000 on any of the three destinations (Io, EDZ, or the Moon) and was looking at waiting 50 days or more for the step to finish, this should help speed things along. Whether or not this will be enough to get players reinvested in helping get The Lie quest done quickly is another issue entirely.
In addition to the event change, Bungie also nerfed the champions that spawn during the Seraph Tower events. According to the change notes, the champions will have reduced power level, so they should be easier to kill and prevent from impacting Seraph Tower completion.
Regardless of the timing, the Felwinter’s Lie weapon quest was a bit excessive compared to some of the other community events inDestiny 2. Not to mention many of those events, like theEmpyrean Foundation, arrived at times when theDestiny 2community was still enthusiastic about the game and merely looking for something to do.
In this case, a lot ofDestiny 2players have decided to take a break from the gameuntil next season (at the earliest) and seeing such a grind-y event only convinced them they made the right decision. Some even decided to boycott the quest in the hopes that it would convince Bungie that a change was necessary. To the developer’s credit, they did make a quick change but that doesn’t necessarily mean that players are enjoying or want to participate in the event.
Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
