The newest season pass exotic inDestiny 2is the grenade launcher Witherhoard, which is proving to be quite a powerful weapon. And, as is the case with the other season pass exotics, there is a catalyst available for players to earn. But in contrast tosome previous catalyst quests, this season’s quest is not just a simple task of playing activities. There are specific steps to take to earn the exotic catalyst for Witherhoard.

Witherhoard is a grenade launcher that uses Special ammo. When fired, its grenades create Taken traps either on the ground for enemies to walk into to take damage, or when hit directly, a miniature Taken blight forms on the enemy and deals damage over time.

Here is how to get and complete theDestiny 2quest that will lead to the Witherhoard exotic catalyst.

Where to find the Witherhoard catalyst quest

As has been the case for many seasons, once players have claimed the Witherhoard fromtheDestiny 2season pass, they can pick up The Bank Job quest from Banshee-44 in the Tower. The Witherhoard is available in the starter bundle on rank 1 of the premium track or at rank 35 on the free track.

How to Get Vault Keys for The Bank Job Quest

The first step of the quest tasks players with collecting 50 Vault Keys. Players can do this by defeating enemies using kinetic or special grenade launchers. Rapidly defeating enemies gives a higher chance of Vault Keys dropping.

Equip both a kinetic and special grenade launcher—the best loadout may beThe Mountaintopand Fighting Lion. The Mountaintop sits in the Kinetic slot and uses Special ammo while Fighting Lion sits in the Special slot and uses Primary ammo. Players may also want to equip any grenade launcher ammo mods and/or the Special ammo finisher mod to avoid running out of ammo.

Then go to any of the favorite places to grind out kills such as Escalation Protocol, the Leviathan’s Castellum, the Whisper mission’s Shadow Thrall section, or The Shattered Throne’s “Thrallway.“After enough kills, enough Vault Keys will drop to finish the quest.

Earn Filthy Lucre and Complete Objectives

The next step requires collecting an item called Filthy Lucre. This is where players may recognize the part of this quest that is most similar to the past. Filthy Lucre is earned by playing and completing strikes (in the strike playlist), Nightfalls, Gambit matches, and Crucible matches. Gambit wins, Crucible wins, and Nightfall: The Ordeal completions grant more progress. Players need to collect 300 Filthy Lucre, which will take roughly 100 activity completions to earn.

There really is no strategy here outside of grinding through activities. Players can always complete Crucible matches quicklywhen Mayhem or Scorched is activeand with certain Nightfalls that are easier to speed run like Lake of Shadows.

The other requirement of this step is getting 100 Guardian kills with grenade launchers in Crucible orGambit, as well as 200 multikills of PvE enemies. Once all of those objectives are complete, players need to return to Banshee-44 to get the Witherhoard catalyst.

What the Witherhoard catalyst does

The Witherhoard catalyst, as with all catalysts, drops orbs on multikills and allows kill tracking. The catalyst also grants the Silent Alarm perk, which increases the Handling stat of the weapon and also automatically reloads Witherhoard after it has been stowed for a short time.

Destiny 2is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
