Summary

Destiny 2’s exotic weapons are some of the game’s best items, and almost every one of them comes with an exotic catalyst that improves their stats and intrinsic traits. Unfortunately, each exotic catalyst inDestiny 2requiresplayers to fulfill certain objectives before they become active, and some exotic catalysts are much more difficult to complete than others.

With the launch ofDestiny 2’s 22nd Season, Season of the Witch, Bungie reworked several exotic catalyststo make them easier to obtain. Included in the rework were the Fighting Lion, Sunshot, Graviton Lance, Skyburner’s Oath, Legend of Acrius, Rat King, DARCI, Leviathan’s Breath, Eriana’s Vow, and Ruinous Effigy catalysts. However, there are still several catalysts that could use the same treatment, as their objectives are still rather arduous to complete.

Sturm (Hand Cannon)

Intrinsic Trait

Accomplice: Kills with this weapon fill the magazine of the equipped Energy weapon from reserves.

Catalyst Objective

500 combatant kills and 500 Drang kills

Not only doesthe Sturm’s catalystrequire 1,000 kills, which is higher than most catalysts currently, but it also requires 1,000 kills divided evenly between the Sturm and the Drang, a solar sidearm that can be purchased from Banshee. While the combo of the Sturm and the Drang causes the two weapons to keep one another loaded, it’s still a bit of a hassle to complete this catalyst objective.

Outbreak Perfected (Pulse Rifle)

The Corruption Spreads: This weapon creates SIVA nanite swarms on rapid hits and precision kills.

500 precision kills

AsOutbreak Perfected’s catalystrequires 500 precision kills and its intrinsic trait, The Corruption Spreads, creates SIVA nanite swarms on precision kills, this means that getting a precision final blow may simultaneously cause the weapon to kill any surrounding enemies and ruin opportunities for more. Additionally, Outbreak Perfected is a pulse rifle, which already makes it difficult to acquire precision final blows. It might be better if the catalyst objective were simply 500 kills or getting a certain number of kills with The Corruption Spreads.

250 precision final blows in the Crucible

While getting 250 precision final blows with the MIDA Multi-Tool is not a difficult task, it can still prove to be a bit of a challenge for players who are not skilled in PvP combat. As Bungie is attempting to move into a more accessible model ofDestiny 2, removing theMIDA Multi-Tool’s catalystrequirement to acquire precision final blows in the Crucible would make sense.

Lumina (Hand Cannon)

Noble Rounds: Kills with this weapon leave behind Remnants. Absorbing a Remnant converts your next hipfired shot into an ally-seeking Noble Round and partially refills the magazine.

250 Noble Round heals

Not only does Lumina’s catalyst require players to be in a Fireteam, but it also requires them to get kills with the weapon before their teammates do in order to take advantage of the weapon’s intrinsic trait. It would be beneficial to reduce the number of Noble Round heals required or to simply make the catalyst require kills instead, as kills are needed to trigger Noble Rounds anyway.

Hard Light (Auto Rifle)

Volatile Light: Rounds fired from this weapon have reduced damaged falloff, overpenetrate targets, and ricochet off hard surfaces. Projectile damage increases after bounce.

1,000 combatant kills

The Hard Light auto rifle has been around since Year One ofDestiny 2, so its catalyst deserves a rework simply due to the weapon’s age. TheHard Light’s catalystobjective of 1,000 combatant kills is higher than most exotic catalysts, so reducing the requirement to 700 kills would put it more in line with others.

There aren’t many other exotic catalysts inDestiny 2that need a rework, as most of them have already been updated. However, Bungie will likely continue this trend asThe Final Shapeapproaches, so the hope is that the above-mentioned catalysts will be changed accordingly.
