When it comes to open-world zombie games, it’s hard not to think about eitherDying LightorDead Island.Fans of the genre and of these games have been waiting years for each title, withDying Light 2recently releasingafter so long. Now, the question is where isDead Island 2?
Dead Island 2was announced at E3 2014 but has since passed through the hands of multiple developers. How much it resembles its E3 2014 trailer remains to be seen, but chances are, it could be a very different game. This development hell has had many worried about the game, althoughDeep Silver has reaffirmed thatDead Island 2’s still in developmenttime and again. Despite this, a recent leak suggests thatDead Island 2could be released this year.

Rumors live and die by their source, so it’s a good thing that this doesn’t come from some random, anonymous source on the internet. It comes from Tom Henderson, who has accurately leaked and reported on various games in the past, like Battlefield 2042. Henderson has reportedly been speaking with developers atDead Island 2, who say that the game is going well and could very well release this year.
Per Henderson’s video, seen above, it seems a properDead Island 2reveal (or re-reveal, as it were) could happen “pretty soon with some kind of gameplay trailer.” GettingDead Island 2trailers, news, and marketinggoing, not long after its primary competitor (Dying Light 2) released, would be a good sign in how confident the current developer, Dambuster Studios, is. One would assume that this would be before or around the E3 time period of events.
Henderson also reveals that the game begins on a plane during a zombie outbreak, causing it to crash intoHollywood (reaffirmingDead Island 2’s California setting)and forcing players to survive this crash and the outbreak. Notably, the game’s first synopsis suggested the entire of California was quarantined, and so it could be building on that. Finally, Henderson saysDead Island 2’s release date could be around Q4 2022.
Henderson also states that it could end up releasing in early 2023 if there are any issues with development, but this is a reality of the gaming industry right now. Either way,Dead Island 2is reportedly scheduled to release around Q4 2020 unless something changes. All in all, it sounds promising and hopefully lives up to the long-held expectations ofDead Island 2fans. It’s worth mentioning thatDead Island 2pre-orders still exist, years after its initial reveal, but those who have hopefully held on so long may finally get some real pay-off for that soon enough.
Dead Island 2is in development.
