A returning element from2022’s iteration of Haunted by Daylightis Void Energy. Through working on generators for Survivors, hooking Survivors as Killer, or destroying pumpkins on either side, players can earn Void Energy. Void Energy is a unique resource available only during this event, and upon obtaining 50 Energy, players will see the aura of an Unstable RIft that they can deposit the energy into. Upon doing so, they will receive a speed boost for a full 15 seconds, significantly longer than other Perks that provide Haste effects. However, Void Energy is also key to a new feature in this year’s Halloween event.
In a move that helps to establishDead by Daylight’s horror credentials, players can open Unstable Rifts by giving them enough Void Energy and visit the Void itself. If the player finds a Haunt in the Void, they can offer even more Void Energy to bring them into the trial proper. Haunts can provide significant buffs for either side, making them important to keep track of. In addition, a Haunt brought out of the Void can be used to jumpscare opponents who come across them. Not only is it unique in being a scare that can affect the Killer, but it’s an appropriate addition for Halloween.
Another returning feature of the season isnewDead by Daylightcosmetic setscoming out for Halloween. Two sets of cosmetics, consisting of skeleton tops for Survivors and candy-themed weapons for Killers, will become available to unlock during the season, in addition to new blighted Killers. Previous Halloween cosmetics will also become available again, and due to a new mechanic, they will be buyable with Dark Trinkets, an in-game currency that players will earn in the Event Tome. Speaking of the Tome, Meg and the Knight both have cosmetics that must be earned through Tome challenges, so players have plenty of reason to complete them as soon as possible.
Haunted by Daylight is a good tradition that adds amuch needed shake-up toDead by Daylightwhile it’s running. The new cosmetics are always appreciated, but the new gameplay tweaks in place for 2023’s event should have players excited. While the Blight Serum was on full display last year, the Void and the Haunts within are all-new additions, and it should be interesting to see how they get incorporated into the game. Haunted by Daylight is always a big event forDead by Daylight, and 2023’s incarnation may be its biggest yet.
