New previews forResident Evil 3remake are starting to hit the web, and with them a number of fresh details about the upcoming survival-horror game. Thanks to these previews, fans are getting some answers for some lingering questions about theResident Evil 3remake, like why the development team decided to remove the live choices feature that was seen in the original PS1 release ofResident Evil 3.

Speaking to IGN, Capcom producer Peter Fabiano explained that in the originalResident Evil 3, live choices were added to give the game more replay value. As some may recall, the development time on theoriginalResident Evil 3was unusually short, and so the game itself was not quite as long as otherResident Evilgames. Live choices gaveResident Evil 3players an excuse to replay the game to see all the different story variations.

However, with theResident Evil 3remake, the constrained development time isn’t a factor. So this combined with the fact that theResident Evil 3remake director wants to “tell a consistent story” has led to live choices being removed in favor of a more linear narrative. This way everyone that plays theResident Evil 3remake will be experiencing the same story.

Instead of adding replay value through the live choices mechanic that was in the originalResident Evil 3, theResident Evil 3remake will be exploring other ways to give players' their money’s worth. For example, the developers are expanding the story and characters, offering more character development for everyone from main protagonistJill Valentineto minorResident Evil 3characters. It remains to be seen how extensively Capcom has expanded theResident Evil 3story in the remake, but it should go a long way in making the game last a little longer than it would have otherwise.

Another way that theResident Evil 3remake is adding replay value is through its online multiplayer component. TheResident Evil 3remake is launching with amultiplayer mode calledResident Evil Resistance, which is an asymmetrical multiplayer experience. Fan reaction toResident Evil Resistancehas been mixed so far, but at the very least, it should give fans of the survival-horror franchise something more to do once they’ve wrapped up theResident Evil 3remake story.

With theResident Evil 3remake release dateright around the corner, fans don’t have to wait much longer to find out if the changes Capcom has made to the game are for the better or not.

Resident Evil 3is launching on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
