Disney has released the first trailer for the forthcomingPhineas and Ferb The Movie:Candace Against the Universe. When Candace and Vanessa are abducted by aliens,Phineas and Ferb must team upwith Dr. Doofenschmirtz to go after them, but it soon turns out that Candace doesn’t exactly need saving. In fact, she’s an object of worship for a distant alien civilization, and most importantly, doesn’t have her little brothers around to make her look crazy.
Candace Against the Universe,according to co-creator Dan Povenmire, is designed as a sort of “lost episode” of the TV show, set roughly in the middle of the original show’s run, as well as a spotlight episode for Candace. It’s also a standalone sequel that doesn’t require any previous knowledge ofPhineas and Ferbto enjoy. It stars Vincent Martella, Ashley Tisdale, Alyson Stoner, and Caroline Rhea, all of whom reprise their roles from the original TV show. Ferb is now voiced by David Errigo Jr., who also played Ferb in the spinoff seriesMilo Murphy’s Law.

The film also stars Ali Wong, Wayne Brady, Dietrich Bader, and Thomas Middleditch, playing characters original to the film, with a script co-written by original series creators Dan Povenmire and Jeff “Swampy” Marsh. The director, Bob Bowen, has previously worked onMilo Murphy’s Law, Bordertown, Family Guy,andAmerican Dad. Notably, much of the film’s dialogue and music was recorded from homedue to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Candace Against the Universewas announced in April of 2019 as a new project forDisney’s streaming service Disney+. It features 11 original songs, with an official soundtrack album that will be released on the same day as the film. The first single, “Such a Beautiful Day,” has been out since July 25th, and deserves a great deal of credit for coming up with a solid rhyme for the word “antagonistic.”
This is the second feature film forPhineas and Ferb,after 2011’sAcross the 2ndDimension, and the first new material in thePhineas and Ferbseries since 2015’s hour-longO.W.C.A Filesspecial on Disney XD. The original show was a Disney Channel Original Series that ran from 2007 to 2015, featuring the adventures of two stepbrothers as they tried to keep themselves busy during their summer vacation. This usually involvedelaborate and dangerous construction projects, a secret agent platypus, and a mad scientist, as American summer vacations often do.
