The Zombies mode inCall of Duty: Vanguardmay have disappointed longtime fans of the series, but interest inCall of Duty’s staple horde mode has yet to diminish. With ten entries in the franchise offering some evolution of the concept originally implemented by Treyarch in 2008’sCall of Duty: World at War,die-hard undead enthusiasts have returned toCall of Duty’s legacy titles to sate their hunger. Reddit user u/Zomboy716 commemorates this by converting the classic map Shi No Numa into a horror movie poster.
Inspired by the 2013 James Wan filmThe Conjuring, u/Zomboy716 marries the haunting imagery of the movie’s poster with the iconic, eerie setting ofShi No Numa’s derelict swamp outpost. The source material prominently features a fiendish-looking gallows tree, and this Zombies superfan expertly combined that with the grizzly fate of Peter McCain, the man who can be seen hanging from a rafter in Shi No Numa’s starting room.

The tagline swaps Ed and Lorraine Warren fromThe Conjuringuniverse for Edward Richtoften, the man most responsible for advancingthe narrative ofCall of Duty’s Zombies mode. The credits also make mention of everyone from in-game characters like Nicholai Belinski and Tank Dempsey to prominent developers like Craig Houston and Jimmy Zielinski alongside Kevin Sherwood and Elena Siegman, the musicians responsible for the mode’s many epic metal tracks.
While Shi No Numa is the artist’s latest creation, they’ve made other posters celebratingCall of Duty’s Zombies mode. From theCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warmaps Die Maschineand The Forsaken to classic fan-favorites like Call of the Dead, they’ve borrowed from other famous movie posters to create some truly awesome art every horror fan is bound to love. Homaging both beloved and offbeat horror films likeThe ThingandShocker, these renderings represent the exact kind of pop culture mashups fans would love to hang on their walls.
Shi No Numa may seem to some like an odd choice given its age, but those who haven’t yet playedCall of Duty: Vanguard’s controversial Zombies mode may not know that a small portion of the map made a return as part of Der Anfang. The narrative implications for this aren’t totally understood as of yet, but the inclusion of a well-knownCall of Duty: World at Warmap may have helped to bridge the gap between the older games and the radically different gameplay approach adopted inCall of Duty: Vanguard.
