Activision has released a new trailer for the upcomingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3where it announced a big reveal for August 17 and also introduced the game’s antagonist, Vladimir Makarov. It has been almost 12 years since the originalModern Warfare 3, and now the game’s main villain is set to return in the2023Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3.

Activision rebooted theModern Warfaresubseries in 2019 and re-introduced popular characters like Soap, Captain Price, Ghost, and General Shepherd. At the end of last year’sCall of Duty Modern Warfare 2campaign, it was revealed that Makarov was the one who sabotaged Shepherd’s plans, paving the way for him to show up in the next game. Now, Activision has given fans a better look at Makarov.

In a recent trailer, Activision revealed the character model for Valdimir Makarov, a Russian ultra-nationalist who is currently in captivity. However, the trailer reveals that he has considerable influence over the prison. There were also glimpses of gameplay during his journey from his cell to the tattoo artist, where the game seems to have some form of underwater combat and a possible tundra location as well. One shot also showed an operative scaling the side of a castle-like structure, which could be another important location inCall of Duty Modern Warfare 3’s campaign.
Makarov’s return to the franchise will have far-reaching implications on the game’s story considering General Shepherd is also at large. Captain Price’s Task force 141 will possibly be fighting on two fronts considering both Makarov and Shepherd could go against each other. These two aren’t the only ones returning to the game as theWarzone Season 5trailer announced the return of Phillip Graves, the CEO of Shadow Company from the 2022Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Graves is an ally turned antagonist who was seemingly killed by Soap, but has now been brought back and could be another villain inModern Warfare 3alongside Shepherd and Makarov.
Activision is also planning to bring back the popularslide cancel feature withCall of Duty Modern Warfare 3. A leak has also revealed that the Activision will bring back some iconicCall of Dutymaps toWarzone 2, which will possibly be showcased during the August 17 reveal.
