Borderlands 4can give players a blast from the past by reintroducing a weapon type that debuted in the series' first game. Alongside the unique abilities of each games' protagonists, the huge variety of weapons that players can collect and loot over the course of the game is a major draw for the series. The more interesting and eye-catching the weapons in the game are, the more incentive the player has to try out more of them over the course of the playthrough. For this reason,Borderlands 4would benefit from having as many cool weapons as possible.
One of thedefining features of theBorderlandsseriesis its weapon variety. Each game has a wide array of weapon types and manufacturers, which often play a role in determining a gun’s stats and attributes. For example, Torgue weapons often feature high damage and explosive rounds, while Bandit weapons emphasize massive magazine sizes at the expense of everything else. Each manufacturer even has common design themes that further help the player tell them apart before they pick up the weapon. There is one weapon type that has been absent since the first game, and it’s the most unique in the series.

Borderlands 4 Can Bring Back The Series' Underused Eridian Weapons
The firstBorderlandsgame had Eridian weapons, which may be themost unique guns inBorderlands. Eridian guns do not have ammo like every other gun in the game. Rather, they run off of a pool of energy that depletes with each shot and recharges while the weapon is not in use. This means that Eridian guns effectively have infinite ammo, only needing to recharge after extensive use rather than force the player to scavenge for more bullets to make it usable. That combined with their high power and sci-fi designs makes them some of the game’s most sought-after tools of destruction.
Despite their strengths, Eridian weapons were far from perfect. While most shooters are fast-paced games, to begin with,Borderlands' gameplay is complete mayhemand Eridian weapons ironically went against that design. Just wielding an Eridian weapon would slow the player down somewhat, making it harder for them to evade enemies or get to cover. In addition, the weapons would recharge rather slowly, making them a poor choice for an extended firefight. In general, their best use would be as an emergency weapon for the player to deal heavy damage in a pinch, before quickly switching back to more conventional weaponry.
Bringing backBorderlands' Eridian weapons after so long could be an excellent shift of the series' status quo while also bringing back a unique piece of the past inBorderlands 4. Eridian weapons would need to have their power emphasized in the story to show how they are essentially the secret superweapons of theBorderlandsuniverse. Considering the series' sense of humor, it’s easy to seeBorderlands 4poking fun at how long they have been gone. A new game could even go the extra mile and makeBorderlands' Eridian weaponshave more extravagant effects to make them more impressive than their previous incarnations.
The Eridian guns could bring a lot of extra fun toBorderlands 4if the developers decide that they deserve a return. They play a role that none of the otherweapon manufacturer gimmicks inBorderlandscan fill, and with a few tweaks, they would be an excellent part of a player’s arsenal, especially for the endgame when they need the option to inflict a lot of damage in a short time. The next game would be an excellent opportunity to reintroduce these weapons as an important part of the series, meaning that Eridian guns could end up as one ofBorderlands 4’s secret weapons.
