Animal Crossing: New Horizonshas been an absolute hit forNintendo. It is the largest game in the series so far, not just in terms of furniture or space, but also the villager selection.

Animal Crossing: New HorizonsPlayers have become very creative with their island settlements, often creating themed builds, with villagers to match. One such island theme is science fiction: sometimes bordering on horror, or fantasy, the creations that some players have come up with are astounding.

There are plenty offurniture pieces and itemsthat lend themselves to a sci-fi theme – night-owl Celeste’s available DIY’s are space travel objects, and the recent 2.0 update has added a whole range of medical and science furniture. But with the area all set up, inhabitants are needed; therefore, let’s take a look at whichACNHvillagers are the best choices for a sci-fi island!

10Petri

Let’s start off with a new arrival: Petri the mouse. She was added with the 2.0 update toAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsand is based on a scientist. Some believe that she is more reminiscent of lab rats or mice that are unfortunately tested on. Either way, she is a great addition to the cast.

Petri’s house is also suitable. On the outside, a simple white house, but on the inside, it is filled with science laboratory objects. Complete with a desk, cabinet, hospital bed, and a creepy isolation tank, it is the perfect house for a science mouse.

9Tucker

Tucker may seem like a bit of a curveball for this list, but trust it! Tucker is a wooly mammoth – an extinct creature from millennia ago. Any sci-fi island needs a sprinkling of time travel and some monstrous beings, and Tucker fits the bill perfectly.

Tucker’s house is jungle-themed, with leaves aplenty and some stone furniture. On the outside, it is a brown bamboo affair. He is a lazy type, which fits the fact that his kind has been unfortunately frozen in fossils for many years.

8Ruby

Little white rabbit Ruby seems nice and cute on the outside. But delve a little deeper, and she reveals some secrets. She is white in color, which is caused by albinism, a feature often seen in selectively bred rabbits in real life.

That’s not all though; Ruby’s name in the Japanese games is Luna, a reference to the Moon Rabbit – a mythic white rabbit in Asian folklore. Her house is space-themed, with a moon and astronaut suit inside. This ties in well with her name being so cosmic.

7Cephalobot

Anothernew entrytoAnimal Crossing: New Horizons' villager roster is Cephalobot. Oddly, a lot of the recently added villagers are very fitting for a sci-fi theme! Cephalobot is not the only otherworldly octopus in the game, but more on them later…

This steely squid is a robotic-looking animal, with yellow eyes and rivets all over. His go-to song is “K.K Robot Synth,” a fittingly electric sound to complete his house, which is set up as a space-ship control deck using a lot of new themed furniture.

6Roswell

This snazzy-looking gator has quite obvious origins. His name, design, and catchphrase (and poster) are all reminiscent of the conspiracy theories to do with Roswell, New Mexico that state a spaceship crashed there and an alien was found.

Roswell’s body is covered in circular designs, almost like crop circles, and an alien-like pattern is behind his silhouette on his poster. His house sadly doesn’t live up to the celestial aspect of his design and namesake as it resembles an outdoor market. Oh, and let’s not forget his catchphrase: “spaaaace”.

5Hans

Hans. The adorable blue gorilla was born in the midst of winter. Why is he a solid pick for a sci-fi island? He’sclearlya Cryptid. Is this not the Abominable Snowman, in a domestic and neighborly setting? Some players believe he is part of a mythical quartet with Julian the unicorn,Phoebe the phoenix, and Drago the dragon.

Hans' house and attire are ideal for a winter wonderland, but his physical appearance is what makes him a great sci-fi candidate. A yeti on an island will provide many blurry pictures and research opportunities.

4Ione

Another newcomer who fits the bill isIone, the blue and glowing squirrelvillager. Her house is a light green, and she is accompanied by the song “Chillwave.” Her overall aesthetic is one of outer space, and her bio states that her tail"looks like a starry night."

Inside her house, the astral theme continues as there are stars aplenty while hues of blue surround her sweet gaming set-ups. She wears an Astro dress and is a clear choice for anyone building up a space or astrology-themed island.

3Octavian

The second cephalopod to make the cut is Octavian. At first glance, he seems pretty normal, but don’t let that fool you. Since his inception into the series inAnimal Forest,he has had a house filled with space-themed objects, and a secret to hide.

“There’s a theory that aliens have walked among us since the dawn of time. What does that have to do with Octavian? Nothing… or everything…?“says hisPocket Campbio. This is spurred on by the plasters on the back of his head – where did this injury come from? A crashed flying saucer?

2Raddle

Now, what science-fiction theme would be complete without some form of a physician? Well, Raddle isAnimal Crossing’saddition. His clothing is a doctor’s coat, and he has a mask on his face.

Inside his house is a doctoral research station, withskeletonsand anatomy models adorning the walls. Presumably, Radle only works to keep the villagers healthy, and that there is nothing nefarious going on. However, the fact he is modeled after a poisonous type of frog doesn’t inspire confidence.

1Ankha

Last but not least is the ever-popular cat, Ankha. As her name and appearance suggest, she is an Egyptian-themed cat that has design aspects reminiscent of Tutankhamun’s tomb. In the German games, her name is Kleo, short for Kleopatra, and in Japanese, it is Nile. She is through and through an incarnation of Ancient Egypt.

Ankha’s home is brimming with mythical items like a pyramid, and she adds an air of mystique to any island she is a part of, not least because of her Egyptian-themed clothing and serpent headwear.
