In the run-up to the release ofBack 4 Bloodat the end of last year, the hype had a lot of fans pretty excited. Originally touted as aspiritual successor to the much missedLeft 4 Deadseries, Turtle Rock Studios' cooperative zombie shoot-em-up had a lot to live up to, with many hoping it would be a modern take on Valve’s classic franchise. Sadly, it fell a little short, and player participation has dropped off since as a result. However, the game is still going and the developer appears to be preparing a new update.According to a recent tweet from the officialBack 4 BloodTwitter account, it looks as though the game will be getting bear traps at some point. There isn’t really much information to go on other than an image that says that the trap will deal damage over time, with the tweet itself jokingly insisting that it’s only intended for bears. The most recent one was at the start of this month, with apatch forBack 4 Bloodthat added the option to kick players, improved gameplay, and the ability to draw all 15 cards at the start of a campaign. One of the things that the game tried to implement to make it stand out from its predecessor was the card system. This tweaked gameplay in numerous ways, depending on cards selected, such as granting more stamina or the option to carry more than one grenade.
However, this alone didn’t seem to be enough to make it stack up against the series it was pertaining to be a successor to. One of the biggest bugbears for many was the fact that the game spawned in too many special infected, and the overall experience was far too hard. ADecember update attempted to nerf the difficulty inBack 4 Blood, but to some it’s still a mite too challenging.
As a result, the title went down asone of the most disappointing releases of 2021. That’s not to say it’s a bad game overall, but many felt that it simply couldn’t carry theLeft 4 Deadtorch. The new update may bring a few more players back, but for a lot of fans, the hype died down a long time ago.
