It isn’t uncommon for long-running series to find ways for more recent entries to connect back to early titles, andAssassin’s Creed Codename Jadedoes just that with a small detail that ties the new game’s protagonist back toAssassin’s Creed 2.Ezio Auditore’s exploits are among the most famous in the franchise’s entire history, whether it involves uncovering the secrets of Altair or upending the Templar’s control of the Papacy. While it is unknown what Xia’s own journey could entail across Ancient China, it appears one of their mentors is so influential the order commemorates them in the halls of Villa Auditore.Assassin’s Creed Codename Jadeis one of fourAssassin’s Creedtitles currently in development, alongside 2023’sMirage, the Feudal Japan-setCodename Red, and the mysteriousCodename Hexe.Jadewill take players to Ancient China, during the time of the Qin Dynasty, and follow the adventures of the young assassin Xia during a time of booming trade and advancement. The assassin is a legendary figure within the order’s history because of the assassination of Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China with ties to theOrder of the Ancients. Wei Yu’s actions left such an impact he was immortalized with a statue inside the Sanctuary under Villa Auditore, which players can visit inAssassin’s Creed 2, as Twitter user Access The Animus points out.

Wei Yu’s statue is one of seven statues inside the Villa Auditore Sanctuary commemorating the actions of previous assassins the order believes are worthy of remembrance. InAssassin’s Creed 2, players are tasked with locating corresponding seals for six of the statues to unlock Altair’s own statue and unlock the game’s strongest armor set, the Armor of Altair.Statues of Amunetand Darius, who subsequently appeared inAssassin’s Creed OriginsandOdysseyrespectively, are also present in the space.

It is a small but noticeable detail that highlights Ubisoft’s own dedication to the series' history along with finding ways to linkAssassin’s Creedgames together in various ways. This can be seen up and down the franchise, whether it be a statue of a character players interact with in a later title orShay Patrick Cormacassassinating Charles Dorian, an act seen at the end ofAssassin’s Creed Rogueand beginning ofAssassin’s Creed Unity. It remains to be seen if the inclusion of Wei Yu in Jade will be the only link to other games or if the studio has more ideas up its sleeves.
