The following contains spoilers forStellar Blade.

Shift’s Up’sStellar Bladeisn’t necessarily packed with characters, but the characters it does feature get the job done. The three main characters at the forefront of the game’s narrative are EVE, Adam, and Lily, all of whom are working together to free Earth from the monstrous Naytibas who control it. EVE is an “Angel,” as some would call her — a superhuman warrior who has been sent to Earth byMother Sphereto defeat the Naytiba threat and free what’s left of humanity from its grasp. Adam and Lily, on the other hand, both act as EVE’s partners throughout the story — Adam, a Scavenger from Xion who saved EVE’s life from a Naytiba, and Lily, an engineering supporter of the 5th Airborne Squad.

EVE isStellar Blade’s primary protagonist and Adam plays a major role of his own that would venture too far into spoiler territory here, so the two characters are both very important, and that much is revealed throughout the game’s narrative. However, Lily arguably gets the short end of the stick, despite being one of EVE’s strongest allies. There is one moment inStellar Bladewhere it seems she will finally earn the recognition she is worthy of, but the moment is very short-lived and hardly goes anywhere meaningful. As such, assumingStellar Bladewill receive a sequel, it might be the perfect time to shine a spotlight on Lily and give her the role she deserves.

Stellar Blade’s Sequel Should Give Lily a More Prominent Role

Lily’s Backstory Deserves More Exposition in a Stellar Blade Sequel

WhenEVE and Adamfirst encounter Lily inStellar Blade, she appears to be nothing more than a small, unassuming, innocent girl with a good head on her shoulders. On the contrary, she is much more than she appears. As an official member of the Airborne Squad, she is skilled at maintaining the bodies and equipment of Airborne Squads, and she knows how to use almost any Earth technology put in front of her. As the game progresses, she becomes a strong and valuable ally to EVE, and even provides her with services upgrading the Drone and her equipment.

Very late intoStellar Blade’s story, EVE and the team arrive at the Atelier on Eidos 9, where Lily is reunited with her former sister-in-arms, Iberis, whose Body Cell took too much damage, killing her in the process. Lily then retrieves Iberis' memory stick and carries on with the mission at hand. The moment is very short, and it doesn’t delve too much into the full extent of Lily’s story. This is where aStellar Bladesequel could help out. Lily’s backstory deserves much more exposition than the brief moment she got in the first game, so a sequel should make up for that by giving Lily’s story time to shine.

Lily Should Fight Alongside EVE in a Stellar Blade Sequel

While Lily doesn’t fight alongside EVE, she does eventually “fight” EVE at theend ofStellar Blade. In fact, Lily is technicallyStellar Blade’s final boss, though she’s not in control of Providence, the exosuit she becomes trapped in. Nevertheless, this fight is hopefully a sign of things to come for Lily. She may not be an Angel like EVE, but she could still fight alongside EVE in another exosuit in a sequel, especially considering her technological knowledge and expertise. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched for Lily to help out in combat, and it could even be reflective of the partnership betweenGod of War’s Kratos and Atreus.

Shift Up hasn’t confirmed yet whetherStellar Bladewill be receiving a sequel, but the director has been clear that a sequel will most likely happen. If it does, Lily arguably deserves more than she got in the first game, as she has the potential to be one of the franchise’s best characters.
