Now that the PlayStation 5 has had some time to get settled, Sony is ready to move its VR gaming to the next generation as well with thePSVR 2. The headset packs some advanced hardware, but it will also need a strong line-up of launch titles if it hopes to make a strong impression. Fortunately, it appears that gamers will have a good selection of choices that will steadily grow throughout the year.
The big system seller for thePSVR 2isHorizon: Call of the Mountain, but there are plenty of other games worth looking out for too. This includes multiplayer games likeAmong UsandZenith: The Last City, as well as first-person shooters likeThe Light Brigade. Plenty of already popular games, likeNo Man’s Sky, will also be getting upgrades.

All PSVR 2 Launch Titles Confirmed So Far
With thePSVR 2 finally ready for pre-order, a few more developers have confirmed that their games will be available at launch. Currently, VR gamers can expect the following titles:
The Biggest PSVR 2 Launch Titles
The PSVR 2 will not be backward compatible with PSVR. However, this doesn’t mean that the upcoming headset is doomed to have a dry launch period. Some titles will be receiving upgrades, allowing players to take their games to the next generation. This includesNo Man’s Skywhich gets a free upgrade when the headset launches. The game will utilize the PSVR 2’s controller to provide a more tactile, immersive experience. Similarly, the realistic sword fighting gameSwordsman VRwill get a PSVR 2 upgradein February when Sony’s new headset is released.
The stealth horror gameHello Neighboris also set to receive a VR spinoff,Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue, which is set to release just in time for the PSVR 2’s release. In addition to utilizing stealth, players will also have to solve puzzles to figure out what their mysterious neighbor is up to.The Dark Pictures Anthologywill be receiving a VR spin-off titledThe Dark Pictures:Switchback VR. It is a rail shooter that will explore various locations seen in the first four titles of the series.Zenith: The Last Cityis an MMORPG that has been available in early access on PS VR since 2022. Gamers who already own this title will be able to upgrade to PSVR 2 for free in February next year.

FPS enjoyers haven’t been left out in the cold, as they can enjoy the supernatural shooterThe Light Brigade. The game features procedurally generated levels that will serve as the battleground as players fight to restore light to the world. FPS fans can also jump intoAfter the Fallwhich is already available on PS VR and will be receiving an upgrade. It is a co-op shooter that has gamers working together to defeat hordes of monstrous zombies.

Perhaps one of the most anticipated launch titles isHorizon: Call of the Mountain. The upcoming game shifts the focus away from Aloy and instead features a new character named Ryas who is a former Shadow Carja warrior seeking redemption. The game is more than a safari journey through the machine-filled world ofHorizon, as gamers will also have access to bow combat. The game is bundled with the headset for gamers who want to jump into the action from day one.
The PSVR 2 Ports
Sony’s headset will also be getting plenty of ports from other headsets, including the Quest 2. At launch gamers will be able to playCities VR: Enhanced Edition, the city-building simulation game that has players tinkering with all the minutiae of urban planning. The colorfulCosmonious Highwill also be available when the PSVR 2 launches. The game has players attending a high school populated by luridly colored aliens. Another port that many gamers are looking forward to isAmong Us, which was released on current VR headsets this month.
Demeo, originally released on the Quest in 2021, is a tabletop-themed survival game that should appeal to fans ofDungeons & DragonsandMagic: The Gathering. For sci-fi fans, there isStar Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge - Enhanced Edition. Originally released on the Quest, it has gamers play as a Droid Repair Technician in a battle against the First Order. Gamers hoping to work their brain can turn toTentacular, a physics-based puzzle game that has gamers playing as a tentacled monster helping the inhabitants of an island investigate a strange energy source. With 50 puzzle and action levels, it is certain to keep gamers occupied during the early days of the PSVR 2.

A Strong Start For PSVR 2
In addition to the games that will be available from day one, some titles have been set to release in 2023 though they have been given no specific date. This includes titles such asPistol Whip,Crossfire: Sierra Squad, and theJurassic Park Aftermath Collection. There is also theResident Evil VillageVR2 port on the way which will provide yet another terrifying way to experience Ethan Winters' terrifying ordeal.
The PSVR 2 is an impressive device that will bring several improvements over its predecessor. Its orb-shaped controller brings many of the features of the DualSense controller including haptic feedback and adaptive triggers. ThePSVR 2’s launch pricehas been a shock to many gamers, as it is more expensive than a PS5, but games likeCall of the Mountainmay make it worth the hefty price tag.
