Call of Duty: Warzonehas managed to make an impact in a saturated battle royale genre. Bringing the first-person shooter mechanics ofthe successfulModern Warfarerebootto an increasingly small map as players battle it out to be the last one standing has appealed to a large number of gamers. The map used for this game mode has now been revealed, by fans of the game, to be based on real areas in Ukraine and the similarities are eerie.
The latest game mode inCall of Dutyis free-to-play even for players without theModern Warfaretitle. This has managed to give the alreadywell-receivedModern Warfaretitle a new lease of life and increased interest once again. While many campaign maps have taken inspiration from real-life places in the past, it is surprising to see how many ideas the Verdansk map took from Eastern Ukraine.

The stadium area may have already raised a few eyebrows with players who are familiar with soccer as it is nearly identical to the Donbass Arena that was used by FC Shakhtar Donetsk and hosted matches in the Euro 2012 tournament. Since the conflict in the region in 2014, the stadium is no longer in use. In this particular case, after seeing the full inspiration for the area, some players will now want to be able to play inside the stadium as well. Fans also found a whole host of other Ukrainian landmarks that matched the locations inCall of Duty: Warzone.
The Verdansk Airport and tower are also nearly identical to the Donetsk Airport and tower. Banks from the same area have been replicated in incredible detail. On top of these replications, throughout the map, there have been some broader inspiration with Gora Dam looking like Dnieper Hydroelectric Station but not to the same degree as the other examples. The Verdansk parliament also mirrors the Ukrainian parliament both this building is not in Donetsk. There isplenty to uncover inCall of Duty: Warzonebut few would have anticipated areas sharing so many similarities to constructs in Ukraine.
Many fans will enjoy comparing their favorite in-game locations to its real-world inspiration. While players areuncovering aspects ofCall of Duty: Warzone, this is perhaps one of the most impressive findings. If more maps come to the popular game mode, it will be interesting to see what locations inspire further locations and it seems that dedicated fans will find them sooner or later.
