Summary

The following contains spoilers for the Ahsoka season finaleEven after theAhsokaseason finale on Disney Plus, the latestStar Warsseries is still making waves in the fandom. Now, viewers are pointing to the recently-concluded show as they speculate on what will come fromSkeleton Crew, and they may have something here.

Much of Ahsoka dealt with traveling to an entirely new galaxy. In this case, it meant traversing the stars with the help of a massive hyperspace ring on the villains' side and a pod of space whales for the heroes. This sort of setting change is unheard of in the currentStar Warscanon, leading some fans to think it may set a precedent. Combined with a curiously worded synopsis regarding the upcoming seriesStar Wars: Skeleton Crew, this may be a trend.

As pointed out byScreen Rant, theSkeleton Crewsynopsis notably refers to a group of kids getting “lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy.” But it’s further suggested that the galaxy in question may not necessarily be their home galaxy. At first glance, this idea could indicate that the show will be entirely set in a completely different place than any canonStar Warsstory before. But this theory suggests something a bit different.

TheSkeleton Crewsynopsis may mean that the kids start in another galaxy and find themselves stuck in the knownStar Warsgalaxy, encountering creatures and locations familiar to viewers but alien to them. This seems to line up with leaked footage showing the kids initially in a peaceful Earth-like world before finding themselves surrounded by danger in a new setting. It also plays into the idea ofJude Law’s complicated Force-sensitive characterserving as their guide in this strange place. If he’s supposed to be a former Jedi, it would make more sense for him to be in the known galaxy than an entirely different one, right?

If all this is starting to sound like an anime, that may not be an accident. That’s right, the nextStar Warsseriescould very well be an isekai. For those unfamiliar, the concept of an isekai (most often seen in anime series) involves someone being transported to an unknown world in a fish-out-of-water scenario and dealing with being an obvious odd one out. Notable isekai shows includeSword Art OnlineandInuyasha, with the former seeing its characters trapped in a video game and the latter involving a modern-day schoolgirl thrust 500 years back into the Sengoku era of Japan. Does a far-off galaxy doesn’t seem all that different?

Given howvisually distinctiveSkeleton Crewis shaping up to be, it wouldn’t be surprising if that unique visual style comes from its origin in a galaxy truly far, far away. Some of the now non-canonLegendsstories in theStar Warsuniverse have introduced other methods of traversing galaxies, and one notably originated on the planet of Dathomir. That happens to be where the villains ended up in theAhsokafinale. Coincidence? Looks like fans will have to wait and see.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crewis tentatively set for a late 2023 or early 2024 release on Disney Plus.
